Road to the 1928 Legacy Tour… by Hana

“A back-to-back century sounds truly terrifying and exciting on any given day. When I signed up for the 1928 Legacy Tour, I had one reason – I wanted to follow through with a promise to myself, that is, not to let things in life become excuses to stop me from doing something for myself.

That space of being mildly terrified and excited at the same time is an electrifying feeling that I often found in the outdoors. Biking is one of my main joys for self-care, for connecting with others, for finding community, and for exploring. I knew there were many commitments to be made for the next 18 weeks of training, and I knew it was going to be quite a physical journey. However, I was not expecting it to be a journey of learning and understanding more about myself. I learned how I felt can vary greatly from day to day and week to week depending on sleep, a busy schedule, workload, nutrition, whether I have been staying hydrated, and something not often discussed – the menstruation cycle.

So far, the biggest and most rewarding lesson has been learning to listen to my body. Because we are all juggling multiple responsibilities in life, I have learned that it is equally important to practice kindness to myself and take a rest day as it is to push myself in training. Right now, we have completed our first century and are a little over halfway through the training.

I am looking forward to continuing this journey with an amazing and supportive group of women.” - Hana
